The performance degradation in large towns is almost negligible now, compared to before where it was ruining the experience. I moved the DayZ folder to the SSD and symlinked it to to the HDD where steam expects it to be. I was pretty frustrated with choppy performance in towns, considering I'm running a 4770k and a 780 GTX overclocked.
